Q. What are your hours of operation?
Ayer Housing Authority administrative office is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 2 pm.

Q. How do I apply for Housing?
Public applications are available at our administrative office located at 18 Pond Street, Ayer MA as well as on our website under Applications. State Public Housing applicants can apply on line at Home – CHAMP (state.ma.us)

Q. How long are the waiting lists?
The wait lists varies in years. On the State Public Housing CHAMP centralized wait list, it ranges based on priority, veteran and local preferences. The CHAMP centralized wait list is a common application for all Public Housing Authorities in the state of Massachusetts for state aided public housing units. The Federal Housing wait period is 2 years or longer.

Q. What is considered a priority?
Priority status varies per housing program. Priority status on the CHAMP centralized wait list is for an applicant who has been or is imminently faced with displacement from his/her primary residence as a result of circumstances through no fault. Priority status for Ayer Housing Authority federal programs is for applicants that reside or are in employed in the Town of Ayer or are a veteran.

Q. How is rent determined? Residents in our Federal Public Housing program pay approximately 30% of their monthly income for rent. Residents in our State Public Housing programs pay between 27% to 30% based on the program.

Q. Is there an asset limit? There is no asset limit, although, any interest earned on assets will be considered income to determine income eligibility.

Q. What type of Housing does Ayer Housing Authority offer?

  • 18 Pond Street- Elderly/Disabled State Aided Public Housing (A Building) 34 one-bedroom units

Applicants must apply through the CHAMP online website Home – CHAMP (state.ma.us) Applicants must be 60 years of age or older, handicap or disabled and income eligible. Priorities 1 through 7 and local, veteran and minority preferences are applicable.

  • Isaacs Lane- Family State Aided Public Housing

Applicants must apply through the CHAMP online website Home – CHAMP
(state.ma.us) Two- and three-bedroom units. Applicants must constitute a family and income eligible. Priorities 1 through 7 and local, veteran and minority preferences are applicable.

FEDERAL HOUSING

  • 18 Pond Street- Silas Nutting Grove Apartments- Elderly Housing (B Building)

20 one-bedroom units. Applicants must be 62 years of age or older and income eligible. Local and Veterans Preference and Domestic Violence are applicable.

  • Apartments at Pleasant Street School – Elderly Housing – 62 Pleasant Street

21 one-bedroom units. Applicants must be 62 years of age or older. Local and Veteran preference applicable.

VOUCHER PROGRAM
Massachusetts Rental Assistance Program- State Voucher Program

  • M RVP Vouchers – Applicants must be income eligible.
